Twice
Upon a Dress was founded by Jody Stephenson from the United States and Jocelyn
Kumwenda from Malawi. In 2008, Jody and Jocelyn met and agreed to reach out to
children in Malawi who had zero hope of finishing their education in the
absence of financial support. The journey to reaching their vision was finally
realized in 2013, with one girl who is now receiving financial support plus
parental guidance. Here is more
about Jocelyn, the Malawi correspondant of Twice Upon a Dress. She leads
the sales of the acquired dresses with proceeds going to the education costs.
Jocelyn
was born to Godfrey and Margaret Longwe who raised nine children plus fifteen
foster children in a small house in the southern region of Blantyre. Jocelyn’s
parents helped their children with three cornerstones of success -- education,
diligence and living a prayerful life. Jocelyn was inspired to work hard
through education and everything that came her way. She started a small
business of her own at an early stage of 14 to support her own costs and help
her parents who had several kids relying on them. Jocelyn is now married to a wonderful man Henry Kumwenda and has one lovely son named
Israel. She works as a Relationship Manager for Standard Bank Limited. She is a
family woman, loves God, finds interest in traveling, watching movies and
reading books, serving God and also likes to create time to disciple
vulnerable children. She is a cheerful giver and has passion for the children in
her country that can be lost with the absence of a helping hand, mentorship and
proper guidance. She is driven by her motto:
“Make the best out of every opportunity seized in all aspects of life.”
